‘Remix of Change’ 2022
126 Gallery
Galway International Arts Festival

“126 Artist-Run Gallery is delighted to present A Remix of Change, an exhibition of digital art that explores how the internet has affected the way we view and interact with the world.”

By using data to create new environments, the artists collaborating in A Remix of Change are able to explore how our relationship to the digital has the potential to further our understanding of ourselves.

The exhibition showcases how artists Aisling Phelan and Ben Geoghegan are using new technologies to create art that reflects our fragmented, data–driven world. How do we preserve our legacy as our identity continues to be deconstructed into ever–smaller pieces? In a time when we are increasingly reliant on technology, this exhibition offers a glimpse into a future where we may all be immortalized as data points in a vast, impersonal landscape. But if A Remix of Change is any indication, we will still find ways to create meaning, beauty, and connection in these digital worlds.

‘Dual Reality’, 2022
NCAD Degree Show

‘Dual Reality’ is an interactive installation that explores the merging of our online and offline identities. It questions what is lost in the digital reconstruction of the human form. Merging physical and virtual space, the installation invites the viewer to fragment my digital self. Through interaction with the work, the viewer becomes part of the interplay between the real and the virtual world as they mutually influence each other.

The Ship of Theseus is a paradox which questions whether an object is the same after all its parts have been replaced. By investigating this thought experiment through a digital lens, this installation encourages reflection on the self in relation to one’s engagement with the online world.

‘Dual Reality’ also features my 3D scanned face which has been reconstructed through the process of 3D printing and an audio piece in which my human and computer-generated voices discuss what it means to have a digital double.

Isolation Iterations, 2020
Digital Exhibition, Artsteps

‘Isolation Iterations’ is an exhibition born out of lockdown. From excitement to agony, and feelings of displacement and warped time, this exhibition explores the ever-changing emotions that arise from isolation. By expressing her feelings of confinement through photography and 3D animations, Phelan shares with us her personal response to her experience in quarantine.

Playlist Pools, 2019
The Yellow Box, NCAD

‘Playlist Pools’ is an amalgamation of single lines of lyrics that hold the key to a very specific time in my life, written in order to make a 4hr and 47m long playlist into something more accessible and tangible. I’m interested in the language used in music and how differently we react with it, and in fact how it can react with us, when the melody is taken away, and how we can integrate that into other art forms such as poetry and the visual arts. This poem was written for the Young Art Writers Programme and published in the Dublin Art Book Fair 2019.
